The right microcement contractor for your home is the one that can show you real finished work, tells you exactly which product and layer system they use, inspects your existing surface before quoting, and is honest about where microcement should not go. Rankings and star ratings will not tell you that. A showroom visit, a site survey and a written scope will.
People often search for the “best microcement contractor in Singapore”, but microcement is a hand-applied finish, so the result depends on the people on site, the product in the bucket and the surface underneath. This guide gives you a way to judge any applicator for yourself, including us.
Start with three questions
Before you compare quotes, ask every company the same three things:
- Can I see your showroom or real samples? Microcement looks very different in person than on a phone screen. You want to see and touch a finished board in daylight.
- Can I see a finished site, not a render? Photos and videos of completed homes are a reasonable start. Ask what was underneath (tiles, screed, plaster) and how the job was prepared.
- Which product do you use, and where does it come from? Not everything sold as microcement is the same material. A properly formulated, consistent system behaves very differently from a loose mix sold under the same name.
A good applicator answers all three without hesitation.
Ask what the layer build-up will be
Microcement is a system, not a single coat. Ask the contractor to write down:
- Whether a primer is used, and why or why not for their product
- How many base and finishing layers go on, and the total thickness
- Whether a mesh or reinforcement is used and where
- Which top coat or sealer goes on, how many coats, and whether an anti-slip additive is used on wet floors
- What waterproofing is underneath in a bathroom, and who is responsible for it
Different products have different correct build-ups, so there is no single right answer. What matters is that the contractor can explain theirs clearly and put it in the quote.

What a proper site visit should cover
A realistic quote needs someone to look at your space. During the visit, a careful applicator will usually:
- Tap existing tiles to find hollow or loose ones
- Check for cracks, damp, uneven floors and movement joints
- Look at door clearances, thresholds and floor traps
- Ask about water leaks or past waterproofing problems in bathrooms
- Measure the areas and agree which walls, floors and features are in scope
If a contractor is happy to quote a whole bathroom from one WhatsApp photo without asking what is underneath, treat that with caution.
Red flags
- A quote with no layer system, product name or thickness written on it
- Promises that it will “never crack” or is “fully waterproof” on its own
- Willingness to lay over loose, hollow or damp tiles without fixing them first
- No finished work you can see, only renders or stock photos
- No written care instructions or no clear answer on how to clean the finish
- Pressure to sign on the spot
Singapore-specific things to check
Most homes here are HDB flats or condos with existing tiles, and the humidity makes bathroom detailing important. Ask how they handle wet areas, how long each stage needs before the next, and how they protect the work while other trades are on site. If you live in a newer HDB flat, HDB has rules on hacking original bathroom finishes in the early years. Check your own flat’s conditions on the HDB renovation page and ask your contractor how their method fits.
For a deeper look at the HDB side, see our guide to how long microcement takes in an HDB flat.
How Jiu Ding Sheng works, so you can judge us too
Here is our own approach, written plainly so you can compare it against the questions above.
- Product: we use Natural Surface from Australia, the M Series premixed microcement, which we carry exclusively for Asia. It comes as three systems (NS Grit, NS Solid and NS Xtreme) so the build-up suits the area and the use. Read more on what microcement is and the system we use.
- Build-up: 1 to 1.5mm in total, four layers and no primer: a base coat, a face coat and two top coats.
- Survey first: we look at the existing surface before quoting and only lay over a sound one. If it is not sound, we say so.
- Timing: a bathroom usually takes 3 to 4 working days with the M Series, and a whole unit usually takes 4 to 6 working days. We confirm the timing for your space when we quote.
- See the work: finished homes and commercial spaces are on our Projects page, and we post completed jobs on Instagram and TikTok.
- Showroom: real sample boards at our Tampines showroom, strictly by appointment.

Quick answers
Is there an official ranking of microcement contractors in Singapore?
No. There is no independent ranking body. Compare contractors on finished work you can see, the product and layer system they use, and how carefully they survey your existing surface.
Should I choose the contractor with the lowest quote?
Not on price alone. Check that every quote covers the same areas, the same layer system, surface preparation and sealing. A lower figure often leaves out preparation or top coats.
How many quotes should I get?
Two or three is usually enough, as long as each one comes after a site visit and lists the product, the layers and the total thickness.
Can I visit a showroom before deciding?
You should. Microcement is a hand-trowelled finish and looks very different in daylight than on screen. Our Tampines showroom is open by appointment.
